How to find, place, and match the exact keywords ATS is scoring against — without keyword-stuffing.
'Just use keywords' is unhelpful advice. Which keywords, from where, in what section? Here's the practical playbook.
Find them in the job posting
The posting is your source of truth. Copy it into a document, delete the fluff, and mark every noun that describes a skill, tool, methodology, or credential.
Rank them by frequency
A keyword mentioned 4+ times in the posting is a must-have. One mentioned once is a nice-to-have. Prioritize the must-haves.
Place them where ATS scores them highest
- Job title line (if you legitimately match).
- Skills section.
- First bullet of your most recent job.
- Summary line.
Don't keyword-stuff
White-on-white hidden text, keyword footers, or pasting the whole posting: modern ATS flag this. Focus on real placement in real bullets.
